The Music Club of Saraswathi College of Arts and Science celebrated World Music Day with a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Malayalam lyricist, Shri Poovachal Khader, whose songs continue to live on in the hearts of generations.
The event was conceptualized and led by our Academic Director, Prof. N Jayakumar, a passionate singer and a respected scholar of Malayalam film music. The celebration was further elevated by the presence of our Chairman, Dr G Rajamohan, a respected patron of music and arts in Trivandrum.
Adding to the emotional resonance of the day, the family of Shri Poovachal Khader graced the occasion. His wife, Srimati Amina, his daughter, Srimati Thushara, and other family members shared personal memories that made the celebration all the more meaningful. Thushara delivered a beautiful and touching speech, offering intimate reflections on the life and legacy of the beloved poet.
To honour their presence and contribution, the college felicitated Srimati Amina and Srimati Thushara with mementos and traditional Ponnadas.
The highlight of the day was a soul-stirring musical programme presented by the students and staff members of the Music Club, supported by an orchestra. The performances featured some of Shri Poovachal Khader’s most cherished songs. The orchestra was led by Mr. Joy, who was honoured with a memento for his contribution to the event.
It was a proud and unforgettable moment for Saraswathi College, an institution that continues to honour music not just as an art form, but as a cultural legacy. Few colleges celebrate musical heritage with the passion and sincerity that SCAS does. This celebration will remain etched in the institution’s cultural history.
